CellStrat AI Lab conducted its first hackathon successfully last Saturday in Bengaluru, India. The Hackathon was on Object Detection in Images with intricate data set nuances.
The hackathon was ably led by Anshumaan Dash – the Vision Team Lead for CellStrat AI Lab.
The hackathon problem statement consisted of an end to end image classification pipeline, wherein the twelve participating teams had to collect the dataset, clean it up, try out various classification algorithms, loss functions, optimisers and architectures. The three classes to be classified had long intra-class distances and short inter-class distances, which made it a difficult task to perform. Moreover, the fact that only a maximum of 350 images were allowed per class, made the problem even more challenging.
Two leading teams were awarded with certificates and Amazon gift cards. The techniques used were using transfer learning on a pre trained model, followed by fine tuning. This led to an accuracy of around 86%. The solution provided used a Siamese network with triplet loss function that yielded an accuracy of 96%.
