Robotic Process Automation (RPA) – robots which allow enterprises to automate repetitive, mundane tasks once undertaken by humans, freeing them up to work on more strategic tasks – is set to change the business landscape. Its important to say that when industry says robots, they don’t actually mean robots.
5 key facts generated from practitioners in companies globally are:
1) Second highest Strategic Priority for companies is “Increasing Automation.” In India however, it still figures on 3rd. or 4th. as per EraStrat research.
2) RPA optimism rises once implemented: Globally, companies seem to fall more in love with RPA, the further down the line they get and believe that over 60% of their processes could be automated. In India, however, we have seen that technology savvy younger employees in companies with lower automation believe that more than 60% of their processes can be automated.
3) P-2-P and accounts payable functions most likely to benefit from RPA as per global companies where as Indian companies feel RPA would have most impact in areas like marketing, customer service, e-learning and search.
4) Standardization: the major challenge
Globally, there is a consensus among all companies, that standardization is the key roadblock. Until RPA is at a stage where RPA bots can think for themselves, they remain a slave to their algorithms. And while accuracy is RPA’s main advantage, it can quickly turn sour if an external or internal business process isn’t aligned.
5) RPA implementation process cant be done overnight
When companies start sharing their requirements, many use cases come in and which involve lot of time and back end integration. Thus, RPA implementation process takes more than 12 weeks.
Companies must be prepared to wait if they want successful RPA implementation.
