Artificial Intelligence (AI) is taking over the world like a storm. Gartner, an IT research firm has predicted that every new software product will launch with AI-powered capabilities by 2020. Those who don’t will lag behind their competitors or die.
These days, when we visit our clients 2nd. or 3rd. time, one can easily spot a sense of tension on the faces of their employees as if their jobs are going to be taken away. Well, with the growing popularity of AI and AI-powered products, some organizations have started integrating it in their workplace to automate their tasks and work ‘smarter’. As a lot of interests and investments go towards the AI industry, more and more organizations would soon choose to integrate AI in their daily operations and this change may be inevitable. But never the less, automation through AI depends on lot of factors like cost, skill availability, it’s benefits etc. Some other factors can be accessed here. On of the main ones probably that needs immediate handling is “How your team would react and handle the transition of working with AI based technology or fear of loosing their jobs.”
Below are some ways in which you can prepare your employees to be ready:
- Consider Redefining their roles: As AI automates some of your tedious tasks, others may think that AI is slowly taking over their job but if you look at it closely, AI is actually helping them deliver a better value to their team. For e.g. HR Manager spending more time on taking decisions instead of sifting through candidate profiles which will be taken over by AI now. Or Project Managers can now focus on more important tasks which they may have neglected in the past due to time constraints such as decision making, strategising a better process or motivating the team.
- Focus on employee development as much as AI integration: Don’t let the AI hype overshadow the importance of our team. It may take some time for the AI to get fully embraced by the whole team but you need to encourage your team to adjust and further develop their skills, adapting to new work processes with AI-enabled tools. Conducting training and seminars prior the implementation of AI is the best way to set proper expectations.
- Encourage collaboration between humans and machines: With some of the tedious tasks offloaded to AI, your team could provide more inputs that can be analyzed by AI and you can create new metrics to further scale your project or find a shorter path to achieve project objectives. A smart collaboration between humans and machine could simplify work and lead to faster and better productive results.
Increasing AI based enablement of workplace is inevitable. However, we can prepare ourselves and our teams by continuously educating ourselves of the benefits of AI and how it can greatly decrease our workload, reduce burnout and save us hours spent on less significant tasks through automation. On the other hand, we must also be able to judge if all tasks can be automated through AI
